Introduction
Integrating work apps with your OKR check-ins will transform the way your teams track progress and report on key results. Instead of manual updates that can be time-consuming and error-prone, connecting tools like Excel brings automation and accuracy to your goal tracking.
These integrations pull real-time data directly from your existing systems, creating a single source of truth that keeps everyone aligned. By connecting the tools you already use daily, you can reduce the overhead for your teams, ensure data consistency, and maintain a continuous pulse on your most important metrics without disrupting your workflow.
Rhythms Excel Online integration lets you update OKR progress automatically based on the values of cells in Microsoft Excel worksheets. As an example, let's say you use Excel Online to track user retention for your mobile application. One of your key results in Rhythms is to achieve 95% user retention in a quarter. When you link this key result to the corresponding sheet in Excel Online, the status of your OKR will be updated automatically as the value in the cell changes.
Enabling Excel Online Integration
As an admin, you can enable integrations to help your team track progress seamlessly, pull real-time data into key results, and optimize workflows. This guide provides a walkthrough on how you can enable integrations on Rhythms. Once enabled in the admin panel, your users will see the option to use these integrations when providing check-ins.
Excel Online Integration for Check-ins
Below are the steps that users can take to use the Excel Online integration for check-ins. Steps 1-6 below are one-time and only for the initial setup.
Step 1: Access KR Check-in Window
Start from the Rhythms home screen where your company's OKRs are displayed. Choose a key result to provide a check-in for and open the check-in panel.
Step 2: Connect Work Apps
In the check-in panel, locate and click the "Connect work apps" button to begin integrating external data sources. This opens the app selection interface and shows users the list of available integrations.
Step 3: Select Excel Online
From the list of available integrations, users can select Excel to connect business reports and intelligence data.
Step 4: Authenticate with Microsoft
Users will be prompted to sign in to their Microsoft account to establish the connection. They can select the appropriate account from the options presented or add a new account if needed.
Step 5: Review and Accept Permissions
Users can review the permissions that Rhythms requests for Excel Online access. These typically include:
- Read permissions
- View basic user profile
This completes the authentication and establishes the connection. If you are an administrator in your Microsoft tenant, you can provide consent on behalf of users in your tenant to read their basic profile information.
Step 6: Configure Excel Online Integration
Once connected, users can select the specific workbook, sheet, and specific item
Tip: Encourage your users to double-check their selections to ensure the right data is pulled.
Step 7: Complete Check-in
With Excel Online now connected, users can now:
- Continue adding contextual notes about the data
- Set the check-in date
- Submit your check-in with the "Check-in" button
You've now linked your key result to a worksheet in Excel Online; the appropriate cell value will now be tracked, and the status of the corresponding OKR will be updated automatically as appropriate.
Tip: Remind your team to add their own notes even with integrated data, to keep everyone aligned.
Benefits of Using the Excel Integration
- Real-time Data: Pull the latest metrics directly from Excel files
- Consistency: Ensure all team members reference the same data source
